Our History
Previously known as Beasley’s Store, Halfmoon Trading Post and B & J Store, the Halfmoon Bay General Store has operated since 1937.
In its early days the area was served by the Union Steamship which stopped at the wharf at the end of Mintie Road. Historically the store has housed the Halfmoon Bay Post Office, offered meat aging services, had a gas pump onsite and been known for running deliveries over to Thormanby Island.
Our Rebuild
At present, we’re operating right next door to our original location while we build a long term home for the business. After 90 years on the waterfront it became clear the structure needed to be rebuilt so that it can continue to serve the community far into the future. In order to honour its history, we’ll be re-incorporating salvaged materials from the old store into our new build.
We expect to move from our current location back into a combined general store and cafe with oceanfront patio on the footprint of the old store in late 2024.
What to do around Halfmoon Bay
Halfmoon Bay Pier- Grab a coffee in store and take a short stroll down to the government dock at the end of Mintie road. The views of the bay, including Anchor Rock, are stunning.
Coopers Green Park & Beach - Our local waterfront park, community hall and pebble beach, perfect for a picnic or a game of volleyball. There is also a boat launch and washrooms.
Smuggler Cove Hike - A beautiful short hike encompassing boardwalks through a wooded wetland area and paths around a rocky outcrop. Fantasic views are to be had both over Smugglers Cove and out across Welcome Passage towards Thormanby Island and beyond.
Trout Lake - A great spot for a swim, kayak or paddleboard on a hot day.
Sargeant Bay Provincial Park - A scenic beach area with a short waterfront stroll between the beach and a wetland area.
Hiking and Biking Trails - The entire area between the Sunshine Coast Highway and Redrooffs Road is full of trails to explore. These are great for both hiking and biking.
Thormanby Island - Plan a day trip to escape and relax in stunning surroundings. Don’t forget to stock up well as there are no facilities. Thormanby Transportation or Buccaneer Marina can help get you there.
Halfmoon Bay Community Association Events - Keep an eye out for events put on by the Halfmoon Bay Community Association.
